454 hoses from t stat to mainifold + Riser

My old boat, a 77 26' Formula has twin 454's
one is original, the other is newer .
The newer one has a T coming off the t stat houseing which goes to the risers,
then the lines that come off the t stat go to the manifold.
The old engine has 4 nipples off the houseing, 2 go to the bottom of the manifold, 2 go into the top of the manifolds,
then the 2 off the t stat nipples goes to the risers.

Should the lines off the t stat go to the risers or to the manifolds.

Well,.... I don't recognize either T-stat housing,...
But, I will say, Neither motor looks to be plumbed Correctly,...

Any chance ya got a serial number range for either motor,..??

How are these motors fed water,..??
Motor mounted, belt driven raw water pumps,..??

Before I installed closed cooling on my 454, I seem to remember I had only one hose going to each manifold. The risers didn't have hoses going to them. The water supplying them came up from below through the riser gasket from the manifold.


I don't remember ANY hoses going to the risers until I removed the plugs and installed hose fittings in them......

Don't have any #'s on them, wish I did.
Yes, raw water pump, mounted on engine, belt driven, like an inboard.

HT, I ran across a scimatic that didn't show any hose going to the risers.
I just scratched my head.

Well, I am thinking that's how mine was (prior to closed cooling)

You must have the "Bravo" pump like mine. Also used in most Merc inboards.

If you hang around a while, Don will probably post a manual that will show the cooling schematic for a typical 454 inboard.
