454 intake gasket not covering port

I've been trying to rebuild this 454 gen 4 in a Baja force 250.I put on intake gasket fel pro 17340 which it call for on mercury site.In the center it barely covers the top port on the head.i think it's a water port.What is going on?I have pics to show you.Its like this on both sides.

Could be air cross over through intake.
Is that the same head and intake that ran before the rebuild? Original gasket may have had a cross over block off.

No it was all tore up.what I don't understand is the intake supposed to block that off or is the gasket supposed to block it off.after research I see that it's not a water port.its the exhaust crossover but intake doesn't go that high anyhow.im not understanding what is supposed to be don

No it was all tore up.tjays why I'm replacing it all.what needs to be done here?the intake doesn't cover it anyway or wouldn't have the force to push gasket down.ots not a water port.i researched it to be the exhaust crossover.

I don't see it as a gasket issue, it looks to me as a wrong intake. The 2 bolts shown should be on each side if the center opening. Don't see how the bolt on the right is even close to the hole. Also the intake is not high enough and should be real close to top of head

What is the engine serial number from Merc?
In searching, it appears there are possibly two different types of intake gasket part numbers and possibly your 17340 might not fit in with the other option out there when comparing all the possibilities.

Engine didn't have tag for serial number.here is a spare junk motor that is same kind without the gaskets.intake is same as the one I have on my good engine.tpu can see it sits below the ports.i want to know is this a water port or is it a exhaust crossover?

I wonder if that's the problem it saying gen 5 by my gasket 17340?Surely it's not that ,but I would still have to rtv the gasket all around that area due to intake will not hold that part down on its own.o can also see on this parts motor the old gasket covered that area completely and had rtv all around it.

Look on the rear of the block and directly below where the distributor is. On the top deck of the block there is a number, what is it?

On the heads look in between the rockers and on the ends, see what casting number is there?

Everything looks exactly same between these 2 engines.I am seeing mercury gasket intake 8m0050224
And glm marine 39170 both have a lot taller gasket in that port area to cover that hole.I bet one of those gaskets was previously on it.

Your heads have an exhaust cross over. Your intake doesn’t have exhaust cross over. Hopefully you can find a gasket to block it off. I think some people close the ports on the head by welding in a piece.

Unless someone like @Scott Danforth has something to add it's a non-issue, just install and cut the gasket away. I don't see much of a difference between Felpro 17340 and 1212
