YA-HOO !!! i finally had the time to swap the raw water intake line to the thru-hull fitting for the mascerator and it worked , no more overheating . that fitting is a little small and does not have a scoop and strainer so i will haul the boat and install the right one but i am thrilled that my problem is solved. thanks to everyone for all your thoughts and input. i learned alot from all the ideas that were thrown around. thanks to you guys i now feel that i have a much better understanding about how this cooling system works .

jobie; not sure i understand your last post. got the part about the sea water intake on drive not working and changing to threw hull.

question is, are you changing to a threw hull and abandoning drive intake or repairing drive intake?


i ask as i'm debating doing this with mine

i did back flush the power steering / oil cooler and the heat exchanger

Glad you got it fixed!

One more thing. When I discovered my oil cooler literally crammed with impeller fragments, just "back-flushing" it wouldn't budge them. I had to pull almost every piece out of it with needle-nose pliers......
(The previous owner told me that he had replaced the impeller. So he did run it that way for a time..... It evidently passed enough water to not overheat.)

So if you did not do that (or you didn't physically look into the water inlet of the oil cooler) you may still have "stuff' in there.

i am abandoning the drive intake and going with the thru-hull !!!! as long as i dont have any more overheating issues i'm gonna run it as is for the rest of the season but i will definately take your advice and pull the cooler and visually check it before launching next season. thanks again to all !!!
