Good morning,
Does anybody have an idea as to why these exhaust elbows are out of stock everywhere? Osco, Barr, Sierra, Mercruiser, can't seem to find one anywhere. I hope they are not phasing them out........

Re: 470 3.7 Mercruiser exhaust elbow

I went through the same issue with my older log style exhaust on my boat. They dont make alot of the parts anymore for mine. I ended up upgrading the whole thing to a new center style instead of buying older parts.

Is this what you are looking for? You didnt specify a picture, year, or serial number.

Fits MCM 140 (1966-1982), 470 (1976-1977), 165 & 200 in-line 6 cyl.;

Re: 470 3.7 Mercruiser exhaust elbow

I'm sorry, I'm always on the run and rushed.
1986 3.7 190hp aluminum manifold. I have checked every website and even had a couple local Mercruiser dealers try and find one and they all seem to be unavailable (out of stock)

From one website:
OSC8561 has been replaced by HGE8561 Exhaust Elbow with Reservoir, Mercruiser 3.7L with Aluminum Manifold

Quantity in Cart: None
Part Number: HGE8561
Price: $219.95

Sorry, HGE8561 is temporarily backordered. Please check back later.

Elbow/Reservoir used on a Mercruiser application. It is used on a 3.7L with an aluminum manifold. This riser comes with the reservoir cap, and uses OSC8561-G riser gasket, or mounting kit OSC8561-MKL. This item replaces Merc. oem # 98561, 93174
HGE Manifolds and Risers come with a 3-year limited warranty!

The last year they were made and installed on a new engine was 1989, 24 years ago. So I would think very few people will be casting new ones now. Getting them may prove difficult. I realise that doesn't help you with your problem now, but it might be good justification for a nice shiny new MPI engine... ;)

Re: 470 3.7 Mercruiser exhaust elbow

Breezeworks is probably the only place I havent tried. I'll call them. Hopefully they have one and I can salvage some of this season.

With over 900 hours on her, this motor is becoming very problematic for me. I fish at night, well off shore and need more reliability.

I was going to get a remanned longblock over the winter and upgrade to a alternator and electronic ignition. If parts availability is going to be a problem, I will probably drop a 4.3 in her instead. That should give me about the same performance and be a bit more serviceable and reliable.

My boat has stringers on each side of the motor at 22" center to center, as long as the height from the stringer to the crank is the same on both motors (or within tolerance) it should be do-able. I will have to do some measuring and some pricing. I think everything else will bot up. Is that correct?? Anyways, thats a topic for another thread.

Thanks for your help!

The outdrive gear ratio will be correct for a 4.3.

Just curious if you have found one yet. I have the same problem except I have two of these things in my boat.

I didn't contact Breezeworks, I found a quality used one from a fresh water boat.
I can tell you that I tried everywhere and nobody has one. They all say that they are temporarily out of stock (not discontinued) but that remains to be seen.
Try Breezeworks. Good Luck!
