I have successfully completed the alignment on my 80-82 470 engine using the tool described in many posts, but I am a little worried about the dimension where the tool passes through the gimbal bearing. It measures 1.375" at this point, but seems a fairly loose fit as it sits in the gimbal bearing, with as much as 10-20 thou play. The bearing itself is not worn, the play, is definetly between the shaft and the bearing inner ring. I guess my question is, should it be a snug fit, or a loose one? I considered the possibility that the inner ring has worn, but the splined shaft from the outdrive shows no wear, and the two "O" rings are not damaged either. This is almost my last stumbling block, (well, up to now anyway) any help is appreciated.
