I assume that you have replaced the points. Couple of things to do. Grab your voltmeter and measure the voltage at the coil + while it is cranking, should read the same as the battery. No voltage probably means the slave solenoid is not functioning. Next turn the kry to run, and measure the voltage at the + terminal of the coil. If you have voltage, pull the center wire from the distributor and place it near some bare metal on the block. Remove the distributor cap and place a piece of insulating material between the points. Take a short piece of insulated wire and briefly jumper from one side of the points to the other. You should get a spark from the coil wire each time you remove the wire. If you do your points are bad, if you do not, look to the distributor ground.

What should the voltage be with the key on?

There is a resistor wire in there so the voltage may be around 8 volts or so.

Im not sure im setting my volt meter correctly. Where should I have it set? I seem to have power to the coil.

When you check the coil for voltage at the (+) terminal the black test lead goes to ground on the block somewhere.... and not (-) of the coil.

Every test meter is different but you want to have it set to read DC volts. If there are different numbers under DCV then select the closest one over 12 volts in the picture attached it would be 20
