470 not getting fuel

Took my boat out for the first time today and engine ran great for about 30 min then sputtered and died. Checked everything out and it is not getting fuel. Check valve works in tank and fuel filter its new. Pulled off the pump (carter with bottom bowl) and the bowl filter its ok. When I move the arm it sucks and pushes air.i picked a new quicksilver pump but im wondering if this is the problem? Also there is no fuel in clear line going to carb


Also why does the hardline fitting at the pump have a second fitting over it with a rubber washer in it? Some sort of support?

Also have slight external only riser leak. Do the aluminum manifolds ever go bad or just the risers?

Motor is 86 170 hp fyi

Figured out the pickup tube broke off. Is there a way to make your own?

It may just need a new reservoir to manifold gasket, make sure the surfaces are clean and flat when you put it back on. While it is off you might want to check to make sure the seawater passage in the elbow is clean and clear, and take a peek at your exhaust shutter to make sure it is OK. Good luck.

the riser/reservoir is pretty rusty... found an aftermarket one for a couple hundred. I cannot believe the price of a new aluminum manifold! its too bad these motors werent engineered a little different in some areas. they run awesome when they do.

anyways...it looks like a tube was shoved into the bottom of a reducer pipe fitting. half the threads were drilled out on the inside of the fitting for pipe to fit inside. hi-tech stuff. I welded 3/8 brake line to the fitting and it holds vacuum indefinitely. will that work? do they make a one piece design for a 1/4 pip thread?

Fuel tank stuff is way beyond me. You could try a search for "BOAT TANK PICKUP TUBE" and there is some information that you can get some ideas from. GOOD LUCK.
