I also hope it was just one of those strange one-time things:)
If it is water getting in the oil, there is one other way but I was hoping you wouldn't ask ;)
It's unlikely in your case, more likely if this was a winterization problem, and that is a cracked block

Another way to tell if it is water is to keep a close watch on your coolant level. You have a closed system, so any water getting into the oil would lower the coolant level.

Is it possible it can be my exhaust manifold

I don't see how. Before going any further with this, try what the previous poster suggested. Pump out a small amount of oil into a glass. If it looks like oil then you do not have a water leak. If it looks milky, then you do have a water leak.

Not likely, since the block is filled with antifreeze. Everyone seems to be assuming there is coolant in the oil. If there was the oil in the CRANKCASE would be milky. Is it? If it is not then there is no water in the oil.

Answer this question for us. Is your crankcase oil milky? Look at your dip stick and let us know. This will help eliminate a couple areas of concern.

OK. With this in mind it's time for a couple tests. Compression and Leak down. Borrow the tools from Autozone. This will tell you the state of your head gasket. Thirdly inspect the weep hole @ the 7 O'clock position lower edge on your timing chain cover for ANTIFREEZE. Be sure it is clear by carefully running a straightened paper clip up into the hole. Should be NO antifreeze. This will indicate the state of your cam seals. Get back to us when you can with the results or further questions.

Ok I looked at the oil on the dip stick it does not look milky but i have a white film in the valve cover. Could this be just Condensation ? The oil I used when I changed the oil was a 1 gal container that was open and stored in the boat for some time. could it be that aim getting all the condensation out of the oil . Also it looks like the valve cover is leaking oil now at the end by cyl. 4 The last time i took the boat out the oil level was at the second L of full so it was a little over filled . After a 30 min run got back to the dock and there was oil on the valve cover . It came from the breather tube . Now before I started the boat today the oil level was at the u in full still a little over filled but I think last time the oil that came out the breather tube lowered the level . So why is the oil coming out the breather tube ? Thanks for all your help thanks

If the oil in the crankcase looks good, and from your description it is. Then you do not have water or coolant in the oil. Since it sounds like you need a new valve cover gasket anyway, so drain the oil that is in there, remove the cover and wipe it down, and fill with fresh oil (40W or 25-w40) and you should be good to go.

Does any one know if the 460 valve cover gasket will fit the 470 mercruiser
