470 water pump replacement (1987)

i have just heard that the 470 water pump is a #%#&*% to replace ? rumor has it that the cam shaft has to come out ? or is just the impellor need to be replaced ? weep hole seems to be dripping -- mind you a rumor is just that a rumor unless you talk to someone who has done this . any help would be great thanks

Neither, the impeller is cast aluminum and never needs replacing. The weep hole leak does occur from worn seals or a grooved camshaft.This is repairable with new seals and/or a speedi-sleeve repair.

If you have room for a puller in front of the engine you will not have to mess with the engine mounts.
