48 hp evinrude won't plane out

I have a 48 hp evinrude. Starts and idles fine, runs great in reverse, but seems to "bog" down in drive and won't plane out. Ran fine last weekend but the problem started suddenly this weekend. Can't get it to build up any rpms in drive and just plain won't go. Any ideas?

maybe sucked up some junk in the filter and blocking the line I am not the best with the stuff but I bet it is something simple does the bulb stay primed is the fuel filter blocked ??? good luck get it fixed summer is here

pack,<br /><br />I'll bet you've lost one cylinder for whatever reason.<br /><br />Check spark first, then compression. Take a good look at the spark plugs. More than likely, one looks different from the other.<br /><br />Get back to us.

Packfan, I have 48 Johnny rude that did same thing and the bottom carb jet was plugged. Joe Reeves helped me .

I checked everything out and I have found that the top cylinder is not firing. It appears that the black piece (not sure what it is called) between the ignition and spark plug is bad. I took it to the boat shop and the mechanic is under the same impression. I hope that is all it is.

Is it the spark plug wire?

I had the same problem with my 50hp Evinrude and the problem was the power pack.
