Hello All. I have a 48 HP Johnson OB that is about a '92 year model. This motor does NOT have power tilt/trim. It does, however, have a hydrolic cylinder mounted between the motor and transom. This is used to lock the motor in place, either up or down. You open a valve, tilt the motor up manually, and close the valve. Can this system easily be converted to power T/T? Can I use this cylinder and simply purchase the pump and any necessary hoses/fittings?

Thanks for your help.

Re: 48 HP Johnson

Anything is possible for the willing and the inclined.

However, the feasibility of such a project is altogether another question.

The list price for a whole power Trim Kit is $917.20 then there is an additional $40 conversion kit which must be purchased.

So if $1000 plus labor and agravation is worth it, then go for it. Otherwise, you may be better off checking for other alternatives on newer (used) motors.

Just my $.02

You can buy an aftermarket trim and tilt for around 450 from CMC. I had one for years and it was great. It holds up to a 130. It sets the engine back about 5 inches so you save on fuel and you can get them at bass pro shops or cabellas. You mount it to your transom and mount your engine to the plate ,run your wire to your remote. It comes with everything and easy to install . Good Luck
