You vouls run 20w50 or 15w40.

You have the infamous mercruiser 170.

The Merc 170 was also called the 470 and 485.

Not merc's best motor, just slightly better than the OMC 2.3 liter

Read up on cam bearing sleeves, alternator conversions, modifying a ford 460 head, etc to keep it alive. Hope you have the upgraded heat exchanger and exhaust manifold.

Aluminum block, steel head, with floating bores is a sure-fire leaking head gasket

Soft cam with seals running on it is sure-fire coolant leak

Scott thanks for the info. I have converted to altenator and have the aluminum exhaust manifold if this is the upgrade you mentioned. The block was rebuilt in 2014 and ran that season, did not run for 2015 had surgery. last season ran with minor issues fuel and ignition, I put in a pertronics electronic ignition that was a great upgrade and went thru entire fuel system. Hoping for a trouble free season.
