496 MAG with Electric Shift OMC Drive?

Can i use a mercury 496 mag with my old Electric Shift OMC Drive? For how much HP is the OMC Drive rated?

I wouldnt. think of a Caddilac Eldorado motor on a yugo trans. that drive was paired with small blocks only. Not to mention parts are hard to get for the Electric Shift when you grenade it.

you could make it fit, however the first thing to go would be the driveshaft splines at the raw water pump.

351 Ford was the biggest thing ever paired to the OMC. Lower gear ratios would be the same (or close) ... the upper would be different model to model.
