4bbl back to 2bbl

Ok, due to numerous factors I won;t get into at the moment, I'm aborting the 4bbl upgrade on my Mercruiser 888/Ford 302 for now and putting the 2bbl back on. I already have the dual plane alum intake on, so I want to leave it on there and mount the old Rochester on top of it with an adapter. The original set-up is a Rochester 2GC carb witha 1" spacer/adapter to bolt it to a Ford Intake (Holley 2bbl pattern). My dilemma is that the 4bbl-2bbl adapter is 1" tall, which would add to the effective intake height. My intake is a Weiant 8011 wich is a mid height. Will the extra 1" hurt anything? I have to make a new fuel line, so it is just a performance issue.

It may even help, you may have to rejet just a bit though, maybe not. Generally a high carb mount makes the engine think it has a bigger carb. That is "If engines can think"???

The 4bbl intake is already on and I think the 500 would cost me bottom end torque and Holley is prout of those 500's in the $$ category.

Those little 450s a nice little carbs, is it a marine unit? You may have to play with the jets a little, but thats simple enough. Should be perfect for your 302.

Well, one more change of plans... I ended up with a Weber 500cfm. The 450 Holley had the edge up until the last moment and I decided the Holley I had been playing with just has me miffed and the cost on the Weber was very attractive.
