Hello. I inherited a 1972 Johnson 4hp that has a broken friction cylinder - there's two halves that sit inside the motor housing and cradle the throttle lever to allow it to turn smoothly (though not when broken!)
Anyway, I ordered another friction cylinder, plus a bushing the parts diagram shows is down there, but the motor did not have. It looks like that bushing should sit either in the throttle lever guide hole in the housing, or around the two friction cylinders and clamp under the friction cylinder hold down strap.
Neither option works - the bushing exterior would need to be shaved considerable to press fit in the motor housing hole, and that's where it looks like it should go in order to be able to house the front shoulders of the friciton cylinders and still allow room for the cylinders in their cradle.
Is it possible they sent me the wrong size bushing? Can anybody clue me in on exactly how that set up is supposed to work? Thank you.
Tony
