Re: 4HP Johnson Seahorse quit, now wont start PLS HELP!
Well she was toast!! Cylinders were scorched and would be an arm and leg to repair it so I just picked up a 1986 Johnson 4hp for couple hundred bucks(way cheaper than to repair the 1978 4hp) and the 86 is much more convenient with the gas can built right onto it so less stuff in the boat

I tested the compression on the 86 4hp before i bought it and was reading little over 90 psi lol the first pull blew way past the seahorse at over 60psi and like I said reached little over 90psi and what a difference on the lake for power. The Seahorse(when it did run) felt more like a 2hp compared to this one.So hopefully I get good few years out of this one.Impeller looked good too but I will spend the few bucks for a new one just so I know that its new in there ya never know when a recent owner may have put it in or how old it is.
I appreciate all the help and many helpful pointers and tips from all you. I learned alot from my first outboard and not only from what happened but from joining this site and asking a ton of questions lol you guys are awesome,Cheers!!
I also hope to be able to use what I learned from my 1978 4HP Johnson
Seahorse and help others who may have the same motor and run into problems. Thanks again! See you on iboats.com and hopefully not for my newer model.
