Would using a cordless drill to start cause damage to ignition system?

Not at all. Just make sure the cylinders aren't dry. You can start it by wraping a starter rope up on the flywheel too. I've done both. Best of luck. Rick.

I'm dumb. Why would you use a drill ????? If you're using it on the flywheel nut, it could get over torqued.

A cordless drill to START an engine? Just a couple questions:
How big is the drill's battery pack?
How much does it weigh?
Can you take a battery pack to the teeth at 600 rpm?
How do you expect to detach the drill at ignition without taking your arm off at the elbow?
This sounds dangerous, in my opinion.

Let's suppose you start the engine at about 350 rpm. It starts. You rev it to keep it going, to 800, 1000, ?
Where's the drill and battery pack when you rev the engine?

Are we understanding your question correctly? This isn't right.

I don't do it frequently but have when my recoil is out of commission. Would not try it on a big motor due to the flywheel torque but ya the flywheel nut with a socket and be quick when she fires. Never had a problem pulling the socket off in time. I hope you don't think I'm dumb now! Gee I thought everyone would have done this. 3/4 electric drill on my first engine which was a 15HP. Rick.

Once I tune one that size, I just give the flywheel a spin by hand to fire it up
