5.0 cobra seized????

I am about to buy a 1987 bayliner capri with a 5.0cobra. I could not turn the engine over by hand so it may be seized. The boat has been sitting for 3-4yrs and it was 9deg f when I tried so I hope some sun and some oil in the cylinders will free it up. A few questions I have are: does anyone have suggestions on how to free this up(hopefully without removing the heads)? I know it did not seize from overheating so I hope it has a chance! I was told that it ran fine before sitting, and was winterized. Also what hp does this thing put out?

If it's still frozeup after you warm it up, Pull the heads........

Unless you're buying this boat for $FREE$..... You're Spending Way Too Much.............<br /><br />It'll turn into a Huge Money Pit......<br /><br />If you pull the outdrive, then you can figure out if it's the Motor, or the Drive that's Frozen..........<br /><br />Did you pull the Sparkplugs... That'll Help Some.....<br /><br />There's ALOT of Cheap Boats around this time of year.......<br />That 1's Got Nothing Going For It........................<br /><br />It's an OLD Bilgeliner......(No Doubt, Lots of ROT)<br />And,<br />The Engine/Drive is Old,+ No Longer supported by it's manufacturer, because They Went Out of Business, Years Ago.......................<br />

Also what hp does this thing put out?<br />

I am getting the boat with a trailer for $500. I figure that worst case I part it out and use the money toward a new 4stroke for my 12' boat. The outdrive looks to be in good shape and you could eat off the engine. The boat has never seen salt water and has always been trailered. The floor and transom seemed solid, but I will find out for sure when it get's warmer.

squirt some marvel mystery oil down the sparkplug holes and let it sit a few days.

hello<br /> yep remove the drive. sometimes they will have water in them and lock up. also remove the drive belts, I did one last year that had sat and the circulating pump had locked and the starter would not turn it.

If it's a 5.0 Ford, It's probably a 190hp. The best OMC released in the 5.0 ford was a 235hp fuel injected version.

Just remove the top cover on the OD. Look/see if there's gear oil inside OR no oil and lots of metal chunks!!
