Don,
Is there any other way for the cold water to get into the engine block, bypassing the thermostat? If not, I will try another thermostat, and see what happens.
Hello. I have a 1998 baja outlaw 25 with the same problem. It read fine last year but this year it sounds like your problem. I replaced the water pump last year and it ran cooler...150 ish. Ive ran it decently hard this year. Im wondering if the water temp has anything to do with it. Water temps havent got above 70 here yet so im hoping with the water temp warming up that it will fix my problem
The incoming water temperatures have nothing to do with it. The thermostat controls how hot the engine gets. If it's a 160? thermostat, then it starts opening at 160? and fully open around 170.
If the engine is not warming up, and an IR temp gun confirms it's running cold. You have a bad thermostat.
