I have a '99 Bayliner with a 5.0 Merc I/O, 2bbl. I had to rebuild the carb recently because the shop that winterized it must not have put enough stabilizer in it, or didnt run it long enough to get the stabilizer in the carb. When I tried putting it in the water a few weeks ago, she wouldnt run except under throttle. I pulled the carb and it was pretty gunked up. So I got a kit from my dealer, and cleaned and blew out all the passages. She seemed to run ok when I started it up after bolting the carb back together.

We took it out to the lake today, and she ran well, except it tended to load up at idle, and would eventually die. When we got home, I pulled the covers off, connect the muffs, turned the hose on, and started it up. Noticed that fuel was continually dripping from the accel pump nozels, which would cause it to eventually stall out or stumble and idle rough. I set the float level per the instructions in the rebuild kit. So is the level too high? Or is something else causing this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Either the float level is incorrect, float is bad, or the needle and seat is not shutting the fuel flow off as it should when the float rises.

Thanks. I will pull the carb tonight and check it again.

I pulled the carb and double-checked the float level, not sure what I was thinking at the time, but it was waaaay low (making gas level too high).

The rebuild kit spec'd the float level (for spring needle) at 9mm and the float drop at 24mm. The Mercruiser manual spec'd it at 14mm and 27mm.

I set it according to the rebuild kit, and she seems to run like a charm. I let it idle for quite a while (with the muffs on), and she ran just fine.

Thanks for the help.
