Date code should only be 4 characters. (from the Merc manual)
Date code explanation: Example - 4928
First figure is year:
4 = 2004, 5 = 2005, etc.
Second figure is Month
2 = February, 3 = March, etc.
X = October, Y = November, Z = December
Third and fourth figures are the day of the month:
01 = first day, 02 = second day, etc.
A carburetor stamped 4928 was manufactured September 28, 2004

And here's what to look for as for Gen 1 or Gen 2...

TKS.JPG

SAE J1223 is the 'marine' standard the carb was built to. For electrical equipment on a boat engine, it needs to be SAE J1171...

Any Ideas?

I have only had the boat for 6 weeks but the engine looks untouched. It’s only got 137hrs. It’s a 2004 model Searay Sport 200. I have posted pics of the engine bay and also the engine number on the riser.
its my first Sterndrive boat as I have always had outboards so am looking at all the advice I can get.
Thanks

That's all standard. Yours was one of the last with a 'normal' carb. Consider yourself fortunate. TKS isn't a great system. A choke butterfly with an electric heated element is much better. But, if you're looking for the best fuel system, it has to be Multi-Port Injection. (Yes, I'm looking at you Scott Danforth ;))

you can not afford to retrofit MPI into a boat. that is thousands of dollars,

its not anything like the MPI on road going vehicles

and doesnt get you any more power or fuel economy than a carb. MPI does get you consistent running in all temps

If you want fuel injection, you can buy a boat that has MPI from the factory.

Be careful what you ask for, todays MPI engines come complete with catalyzed exhaust (pretty much for the last decade). if you boat in salt water, put aside $50 every outing so you have enough money to replace the exhaust every 5-7 years.

Chris and I have this thing going. he loves MPI in a boat.... I absolutely hate it in a boat (too many things that can go wrong in a marine environment)

TKS didn't officially start on the I/O's until 2006 so your 2004 wouldn't have had TKS unless someone installed the kit that was available from Merc....There is no MPI kit from Mercruiser though.

Your serial number shows as Mercruiser 5.0L ALPHA With 3" exhaust risers With 220-HP.. Carburetor(Mercarb)
https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/umodel/4343

The 5.0 MPI's where 260-HP...Here's a view of the MPI parts for you if interested in seeing .https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/umodel/1139

Some 5.0 carbureted specifications too for you here, https://www.perfprotech.com/blog/tech-specs/mercruiser-50l-marine-engines-specifications

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you. I was just mentioning the different options available on any given engine package. When I had my 4.3LX (Carb) I did look into converting to Throttle Body Injection, and even that would have been about $4,000. If you want the best fuel system, you need to buy it as an engine package, like I ended up doing. :D

Yes Scott, my incredibly complex MPI fuel system has been very unreliable. In 12 years I have replaced so many parts... Let me list them. IAC valve and a couple of 72c IAC mufflers... Ah, that's it. When I had the carbed 4.3, in that time I would have pulled, stripped and cleaned the carb twice.

And as I also look after quite a few boats, with both MPI and carbed engines, I can attest to the fact that the MPI guys have far less problems than the carbed engines. Where most people get into trouble with injected engines is not having the diagnostic tools. But the same can be said for carbed, pointed engines too. Without the right tools, you're just as screwed.

Thanks for the information everyone.

Where would be the best place to get a full carburetor kit from?

Search "3310-864943A01 Kit" and the carb and kits will show up
Or search "3302-804844002" which is the kit for the carb

In both cases verify carb number in the listing
https://www.iboats.com/shop/quicksilver-w-carb-repair-kit-mer-tks-zz.html

Now that said; I didn't read (might have missed it) where your having any issue, only wanted more info on the carb. If you are having issues then the above should get you there. If your not having any issues, then I wouldn't mess with it
