No wonder this thread is over 200 replies long. You don't have a clue what you have or how it all works together.
Let me guess, you doen't have an OEM manual either. DO you?

Don, thanks for chiming in. I don't know why you seem so irritated at this thread or the length of it. Yes I do have the OEM service manuals for the engine and drive. I got one of them hear last year. Yes, I don't know a lot about how things go and work together, I thought that was the purpose of the forum....to enlist the help of others to help solve ones problems. Was I incorrect in my assessment?

Everybody I really appreciate all of the help that you have offered me on this project. As a lay person it was really needed. Sorry that the thread took over 200 posts Don. Didn't mean to upset anyone.

The problem with long threads like this, is that they end up covering so many different topics that it's impossible to go back and find any info when a problem does occure.
That sterndrive manual isn't going to help you set your timing, or check advance timing, might want to head up to the Adults Only sticky and download one. You sure you have a Thunderbolt V ignition? They didn't come out till 95 or 96.

Which manual should I have Don. I currently have manual #9. Actually it is the Thunderbolt IV HEI system. What I get from the manual is just connect timing light and turn distributor until timing marks line up. Nothing about a base mode in it.
