Hey guys I would like to start off by saying awesome forum. I love it I have been lurking for about a month now using tips to work on my new outboard. I have 2 stroke experience so i wasn't going into this blind. I paid 50 for the out board and this is what i have done so far.
1) Cleaned the carb. (I work on 40 year old mopeds for my main hobby.I made sure to clean all the little holes that i saw.)
2)New plug
3)New ignition Coil (didn't have spark before had weak spark after i could only tell because i held the plug and pulled the cord. I think it was the way i had the spark plug connected to the spark plug. It was just a metal clip thing. I might have that fixed now though. Have not tried its too early in the morning.)
4)New fuel line. I bypassed the shut offf valve for the exterior tank. I fugured it might have junk and crud in it that might get into the carb.
Now this is my main problem. I carnked it for about 2 hours the other day trying to start it. I put quick start in the cylinder and still nothing. After about 2 dozen cranks if i stop i can here a high pitch squeeling noise. I can't pin point where its coming from. I know the motor was run last ten years ago. The last owner passed away and it was sitting ever since. He took it out fishing the week before he passed. I have never encountered the noise like that before and i can't pinpoint where its coming from sounds like it might be the carb area. sorry for rambling on. and thanks in advance.

What is the model number? Is it on a remote tank?
double check the spark.Should be blue and have an audible snap.
Did you torque the flywheel nut?The whistle may be an air leak in the fuel system.

Its model number is 217-59430. I am using the built in gas tank. What is the flywheel supposed to be torqued at? maybe i didn't get it donw good enough. I bypassed the fuel shut off valve do you think that could be a part of the problem?

I guess no body can help me with this problem. One of my friends said that he can help me work on it. Hopefully everything works out on this, or i might have to go with an old omc.

Fly wheel torque is 25ft lbs.bore and shaft clean and dry.If not tight enough the flywheel key could shear. So check it.
