5.7 Bravo Vs. Apha1 Differences?

I currently am running a 4.3 V6 and want to do the 5.7 upgrade. I am looking a 2001 5.7 Bravo engine that I would need to convert to an Alpha drive. Can you guys tell me what needs to be done to make it work? Will I have everything that is needed on my 4.3 to do the swap?

Also, the engine has 185-205 compression on all of the cylinders except for one which is at 155. They think it may have a valve issue, however the engine runs fine. Is this of any concern? Would I have to pull the head off to fix it, or leave it as is?

One other question, the engine was salt water cooled. Are there any things should be worried about with this? It does appear to be in good condition cosmetically.

Thansk in advance!

do a wet compression test on the low cylinder. If the reading comes up to match the others the rings are shot, if it stays the same the problem is in the head. Acceptable readings should be within 15% of each other, and over 100psi.

Ayuh,.... Determine Why the compression is so low in that hole like akorcovelos says,...

Which cylinder,..?? if it's been sippin' saltwater, it could be a rusted bore....
'n 205 sounds awfully High... any water in that hole,..?? abnormal oil,..??

How much of the motor ya gettin',..?? Full Dress, Bobtail,..?? Induction,..?? Ignition,..?? Plumbin',..??

I am not sure which cylinder it is unfortunately. They said they determined it was likely a valve. The engine is complete including all the accessories, ignition, manifolds, risers and complete all the way to carb to pan.

Is 205 too high or is that what a new motor puts out?

NEVER believe a seller. The only thing they want is to turn your money into theirs. With one low cylinder, and one cylinder too high, and a salt water engine, I would walk away. By the time you buy manifolds and risers, rebuild the engine, you can probably find a good running 5.7 freshwater engine for less than the repairs.

Yeah, I know what you are saying.

I will add this, the manifolds and risers were new 2 yrs ago. I can probably purchase the engine for around $1000 as well.
