As far as I know (I have a Volvo 350), it should be cool running, as it has cold water running against it. It will warm up quite a bit after shut off from heat sink. If there both the same at touch (or close) no prob...one hot, ya got a corroded man.....replace both sides. In salt a few years and toast if not flushed out and maintained best as possible.

Black, they may not both be even, or not as cool as they should be if you are testing on muffs in the driveway. If you have a heat concern, make sure it is happening in the water (where the water pump can suck all the water it needs).

The question is, was it on muffs or in the water, was it at idle or when running under load, closed cooling or raw water cooling?

I would want to know what the temps are when running. Once the engine is shut off the manifolds and risers will start heating up almost immediately.

Like I said in my first reply.. COOL RUNNING ...like in putting your hand on them and leaving it there all day, like in NO TEMP . If this idiot surveyor is heat gunning an exhaust manifold riser AFTER SHUTTING THE MOTOR OFF,.......I know not what for, so good luck.

Re: 5.7 EFI exhaust temp

As an aside (nice boat by the way), if those manifolds and risers have not been changed in the last 3 years, demand a price adjustment, or have them done before buying it if this boat is used in saltwater. No exceptions...don't take a chance. It should be in the boats records.

I would throw my vote towards "warm". When the engine is running, in the water you should be able to put your hand on them and not feel any pain. They will be warm, but not hot. Within two minutes of turning off the engine they will start to get hot, after five minutes, you would not be able to keep your hand on them for any length of time.
