Is it possible for this sensor to make the engine run lean and hot before it fails?

it is in the distributor and sends pulses to the ECM which meters fuel and controls spark.

2002 GM engine

I have never seen that happen.Usually it either works or it don't.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier if you just stated what your problem is. Instead of asking us to explain how the systems don't work as you preceive them?
