5.7 IO problems

I have a 1998 5.7L IO. I took it out for the first time this year today and it was running fine for the first few minutes. After about 30 minutes it began to just rev at higher RPMs. It ran fine at lower speeds. The engine seemed to sound fine at higher RPMS but the boat felt like my prop was not spinning. Any suggestions?

spun hub ....I wanted that to be my screen name. Youve spun the hub in your prop.

I have been panicking about a cracked block! A lot of questions about that. What would the boat do if I had cracked the block. Would the engine smoke or would it sound different.
