Re: 5.7 liter surging, dying, not starting for a while

ORACLE please help with thi question as stated earlier previous owner bought rebuild kit and installed and i just want to make sure everything is correct cause the bulletin i received does not state a fix and does not have my s/n number for the 5.7 liter 2 bbl it says my problem which is surge at 3000-4000 it says to replace venturi cluster 463 but that is 4.3 liter-- does that go for all that have this problem--- thenit goes to a 5.0 with a different problem?????

this is what i have

carburetor (rebuilt)
807312
5503
spring loaded needle and seat
spring loaded plunger
468 venturi
165 jets

is this correct????

does have purple/white wire but no knock sensor
i was told this is in fact a thunderbolt v ignition and still need to put in base mode and tweak.

engine
s/n number f769632
1996 5.7 liter v8
2bbl carb

went ahead with
plugs
wires
dist. cap
rotor
fuel pump
preventive maintenance since it didnt fix it!! lol
coil and coil pickup being replaced for piece of mind and a hopeful fix
need to open gas cap and try,, just thought of trying it
need to wrap aluminum fuel line and try and prevent a vapor lock if that is the case

if none of this fixes it then i gues i should have done compression and leak down test first would have saved some money for the real problem

please let me know if my carburetor set-up is correct and how do i set the float i have heard of setting it level and also measuring it per the specs in the service manual,,, how do i adjust it

choke is working correct and flaps are opening correct dripping from venturi cluster depending on throttle is this o.k.?????? sometimes drips after shutdown,,,

Click this attachment for a good tool mod you may need if you have thick exhaust manifolds like I have. Credit to Don S., it's his image.

got the plugs replaced was a pain but got it

engine still surges
when i put my hands over the carb. and restrict the aiflow the engine does fine?!?
tried every adjustment that i know of..... seems like it is just getting too much air,,, adjusted timing and air/fuel mix needle in base timing and no improvement,, i am thinking about changing venturi cluster for a 463 mine is a 468 and has big drips of fuel into carb.

any ideas other than replace carb.

can the butterfly spindle be letting in air from carb sides.would be good if you could get hold of a spare carb to prove a point though.can you spray some wd40 or similar around carb sides whilst ticking over to see if air is being drawn in from another area because it will change engine note if it sucks in the wd 40.

Re: 5.7 liter surging, dying, not starting for a while

i have tried carburetor cleaner insted of wd40 and no response from engine

and i dont have any vaccuum lines on this engine the only line is from carb to fuel pump and then the normal gas lines tried smothering carb. again and it didnt work as good as i thought it was still surged this time coil and coil pickup are still being shipped so stuck until those parts get here,,, if that doesnt fix it then it could only be internel or in need of new carb.... frustrated now anyone want to buy a boat?! lol
