Went out for last blast. Trolling along tried to take off no power. Ok weeds.. Nope no weeds.
trolling along, alarms start running. Temp gauge at 185? that sounds ok to me.
Mean while, the engine would crank, no start-all a sudden something smells bad.. Rubber, like. Then no crank no turn, sounded like the the starter spun. just a zing.
I am thinking that the motor siezed. Is the end result.
Yes there are a ton of variables.
I am thinking we were not cooling properly. What does make me really mad. I promised that when ever I ride in an I/O to check for the bubbles at the stern make were cooling. We had another friend that his 5.7 bravo was not cooling and after the fact we kind of noticed it was not bubbling.

Re: 5.7 Merc Bravo III

the raw water pump on the motor sounds like its tired

the burning rubber smell could be the exaust hoses that connect the motor to the drive if there not enough water flow they burn from the exaust heat

the bubbles are from the exaust and do not mean you have water flow thats what the temp guage and alarms are for

there is a good chance that water hydrolocked the motor it should be checked ASAP by removeing the spark plugs and cranking over the motor you have VERY LITTEL TIME TO CHECK THIS BEFORE WATER THE WATER WILL DO PEREMENT DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR

tommays
