I was showing my old boat to a potential buyer, when I noticed what sounded like a noisy lifter as I throttled up. The noise got louder and more "throaty" sounding and the boat wanted to lose power at around 2600 rpms. Oil pressure and temp were normal. I limped it back to the dock at "no wake" speed.

Everything I have seen and read makes me think exhaust manifold gasket, but........??

Any help appreciated. This guy really wants the boat.

1982 Mercruiser 5.7, Rochester 4 bbl. Oil is fine. SN on Title is incorrect. Don't have the one off the engine. This ticking just started all of a sudden. I never run it above 3200.

May want to do a compression test. If you don't have a serial number (look starboar side above the starter) how about a year

Edit starboard

It's a 1982 Mercruiser 5.7. I won't get down to the boat until tomorrow afternoon.
