Thanks for the info everbody! I love this forum! Here is what I have decided. I bought a new 350 MAG MPI 310 HP engine with all new components from a company here in the pacific northwest call Kodiak Marine (KEM). It has a closed cooling system and all the goodies for $7700. It was a straight bolt in replacement with no parts coming from my old engine. I know it's expensive, but at least I have no engine worries. This company makes the engines for all the aluminum jet sled fishing boats that are so popular out here. Pacific Power Boats in Portland, Oregon, did the work for me.....WOW, what a fantastic company! If you live in this area, I can't say enough good about them. My 25 foot cruiser, which is really quite a tug, is getting 45 KPH top end, compared to 30 KPH with the 5.7 Mercruiser.
I consider this a huge success story, because any bad thing that happens is a great excuse to upgrade. It's only money!!!!
