The engine needs to idle below 800 rpm or so. If its idleing to high it will run on. throttle cable tension will normally fixit if its adjusted right. Also check air idle adj. make sure your not running too rich.
My boat was doing the same thing. Preium gas helped. Just had my timming adjusted, sensor and sensor assembly replaced, seems to have fixed the problem.
