Re: 5.7 swap out question

so I got home from work a little early yesterday . got the starter in . She just started rite up and ran like a champ. I will do a compression test sunday as well as check for any block leaks, and as I mentioned the outdrive is turning in forward by hand. A cousin told me he has a working drive for me if mine should need replacing. I see that the oil pan has a leak in it so I guess I will have to find a way to lift the engine but before I do that I want to make sure I have none of the issues mentioned above. Thanks again guys

Re: 5.7 swap out question

Today i started the engine again and she ran very well. So now I decide to do my compression test, I pull all plugs and registered about 150 to 160 on all 8 cylinders , thrilled to death at this point. I put the plugs back in and now the engine will not start!! My friend who is an auto mechanic came by to take a look and found no spark. He pulled up some troubleshooting guide that shows how to test the coil ,dist cap and ignition module and all test lead to the ignition module bbeing the problem, I then changed the coil and distributor cap just because I would have done that anyway, and still no spark. I guess I need an ignition module . wonder if it was coincidence or did the constant cranking of the engine cause the module to burn out

Did you put the plug wires back on in the proper order?

As far as the drive is concerned, you can take that top cap off of it and look down into the upper gears and see what they look like.

I marked all the wires with tape then numbered them so that's not the problem

Thanks Bondo, Do you have any opinion on if its likely that the cranking from the compression test may have caused the module to burn out or is it most likely that it was just coincidence
