Question, Just purchased this boat last year, motor was serviced by the marine yard, they put a impeller in the lower unit last season, boat was not used much since we had it, maybe 6hrs or 10hrs last year, should I put a new water pump in it, also the skeg broke off I have one of those skeg guards, is it ok to put on without replacing the skeg? The guy wants $200 to tig wield a skeg on it, said that this should be done even with the skeg guard on it, the skeg has a lot missing off of it! Thanks for any replys!!

Thanks for the quick reply, I was concerned that if I had the skeg wielded on the seal in the gearcase would leak, This guy that wanted to tig wield it is a marine mech I used him to haul the boat out, he says it will be like new when he is done with it, just hope there will be no leaks from the seal!

There isn't any real NEED to weld it on, the Skeg Guard bolt on will do the same thing. The skeg isn't needed for the operation of the drive, or steering, it's just there to protect the prop.

On the impeller, with an Alpha I, the impellers should be replaced every other year, with an Alpha I Gen II, you can go 3 years with no problems.
If you go to all the problems to take the drive apart to inspect the impeller, put a new one in.

the skeg has a lot missing off of it!

Ayuh,.... Just How much,..??

If just for ascetic reasons you want to put the Skeg-grad on it,...

The right mix of Epoxy will hold it on....

The shape of the shek is broken off to a "triangle" length= 8 inch triangle point to gearcase= 3 inch, I can get the skeg guard on it but there is not much left of the skeg! Do you think I can get away with just the guard? also where do you get bolts that shear off as the top of the guard sits close to the gearcase? Thanks again!

You can get away with no skeg at all.
The proper fastners come with the skeg guard.

I purchased the skeg guard off e-bay it has come with standard ss bolts, I did not want to use them fear off damage to the gear case!
