Folks i know this question might sound crazy but i need to put my mind at ease. I installed a new oil pan gasket on a reman engine that i am slowly building. I put ultra black rtv on the corner and over both the timing cover and the real main seal then torqued to spec. The question is... does rtv needs to be put over the channel over the timing cover and rear main seal? I did not put it there and now its bothering the heck out of me. Please advise.

the gasket should be rubber, and then the answer is no

Yes Scott, its rubber by Felpro permadry. Now reading my post i ment to say also putting rtv over the gasket at both channels that cover the rear seal and timing cover before installing the oil pan. I have seen some people do it and other that don't, so i was confused.

a small amount just dabbed into the corners where the timing cover meets the block and where the rear main cap meets the block. think of the amount of tooth paste you put on your tooth brush. then use half that.

Yes that one i did, the one in question was between the oil pan and the gasket. Specifically over the timing cover and rear seal.

not needed, only the corner joint is needed.
