Help! I had a starter good bad last weekend and while replacing it, I decided I should replace the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Now she won't start. The best I can get is an occasional belch out of the carb of white smoke/vapor. I can smell gas and I get spark from coil to coil wire. It doesn't sound like I am getting spark/ignition. Could it be an ignition module? Anything else I can check?

Pull the cap back off and see if the rotor may be broke loose. If it isn't pushed all the way on it can break the tip to one side.

If that isn't the issue, recheck your firing order 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2

Also make sure you didn't pull the safety lanyard, and be sure it's in neutral with nothing leaning on the shift interrupt. Look around the distributor for loose wires, etc.

my first assumption is the rotor is not pushed down and is now broken. second is the firing order out of whack.

Well, you are kind of correct. If anyone had suggested the OP (me) was a knucklehead, that would have been the correct answer ;)

I went back and double checked everything and found that in my haste to get everything buttoned back up, I had installed the cap incorrectly. So I simply rotated it to the correct position, bolted it back down and within a few minutes, she was fired up and running. Ugh! All that stress, all of if self-induced ;)

Thanks again for all the help already rendered!
