I killed the main breaker turning the bat off as well. Rpm was about 400

Something can be sneaking around the breaker. Try physically pulling the wire off the BAT terminal on the distributor. If it kills it, check for a voltage feed. If it doesn't then the engine is running on, although 400 RPM's doesn't sound right for dieseling, the tach may be off, or there may be something else up.

Please don't throw parts at this with out figuring out the problem. It's an awful expensive way to fix anything if the parts you install were not needed. What fixed Sam's boat won't necessarily fix yours. Try doing what I just posted in the last post to see if it kills the motor.

The engine sounds great when It's running even with everything shut down I can even give it gas and it idles perfectly.

i pulled the key out and it kept going, i pulled the lanyared and it kept going

Pulling the lanyard tells you it's not the ignition switch.

Disconnect the excite wire (red/purple) from the alternator, start the engine and see if it shuts off.

If it doesn't stop, pull the coil wire out of the coil or distributor to shut it off. Don't shut off the battery switch, alternators don't like that very much.

What I do when troubleshooting a no shut down problem with your type ignition is hook up a remote start switch from ground to the - terminal of the coil. Push the button and the engine will stop.

Update on the no shutdown . I am running a wire directly from bat to the distributor . This is the only way I can start engine . Is there another way to get direct 12v power? The engine will only stop if I disconnect the wire from the bat. Also it looks like I have a crack in the exhaust manifold should I replace it or can I have it welded.
