Saw ad for one of these in the junkmail today. They always look good in the ad! Any of you guys ever planted one? How did it turn out? Pics?
Just curious,

I tried an apply tree that was supposed to have 5 different apples and it just did not work in my garden. Just a memory now since it died.

My dad had an apple when I was a kid. It was a dwarf variety, don't remember getting more than a dozen of any one kind of apple.

Sounds like what they do in the orchards around here by grafting (I think its called) a branch from one variety to a tree from another.

I may try one if shipping is not too high. It's the right time of year to plant a tree, I think.....
I've decided I may as well just plant some trees that I know will do well in my area. I'm wanting a fig tree, a couple of peaches, and going to plant some blackberry bushes. We've got a little farm that grew experimental blackberries in the 70's and I still take my kids there to pick berries in the spring and we really enjoy it. THe blackberries are huge there.
I think these trees just may not be worth it. I know apples don't do well here in NW Louisiana and that's one of the fruits on the 5 in one tree. Then again, it might make a good science project for my 12 year old... :)
If some of you guys had some glowing reports, I might have gotten one.
thanks for the responses,
JBJ

My neighbor has one of those. They take the different plants and graft them together. She has had hers for a few years and its doing fine.

We've got maybe 6 large crabapple tree which are grafted from a regular apple tree. Eventually parts of some of them turned back into regular apple trees so produce crabapples and regular apples.
