Hmm. You seem to have confused trolling motors (electric) with auxiliary motors (gas) often used for trolling.

I will move this to "Other Outboards" for you.

I set and gapped points at.20 but was not sure if the throttle position should be at idle position or ??? "full throttle" Thanks all for patience wihile learning to nav this site as well!

The reason you're not getting much help on this one is that we can't. In the case of 'funny noises' only the person on site can figure out what it is. It may well be something rattling on the exterior of the motor. Example: a day or two ago I stuck a '58 Evinrude that I'd just replaced the powerhead on into the testank. Cranked it up and it had a bad rattle at a specific RPM. First thought was "Oh no! This used powerhead has a loose rod"! But the narrowness of the RPM range where it made the noise was reminiscent of a harmonic frequency rattle so I messed around until I determined that the throttle advance lever was vibrating against part of the upper housing at a specific frequency. A little bend and the 'loose rod' went away. Good luck!
