just bought a 5 hp Gamefisher by Sears, model #225-587504, ser# 8086 believed to have been built '92 - '95. Need to find out who the manufacturer was. I priced a new magneto coil at sears and it was $119, a bit high I would think. The motor looks like the Mercury 5 hp but could be a Force or ?? Hopefully I can find an OEM part or replacement part at a better price. Will also be looking for a prop. Thanks for any and all help.

She's a Force! Check with your local Mercury dealer. It will be listed in their electronic parts catalog under Sears. Yours was made between 1993.5-1995 based on the model #. Is it the ignition module, or coil-based ignition? Module runs around 70 bucks, coil over 100.

Thanks "Fouled Plug" for the quick reply and answer. It's a coil ignition system. I checked Sears and they had the model # but the parts were only for serial #'s higher than 0E018530 and up, mine is 8086. Also the diagram shows a module, not a coil so I'll be calling them in the morning to see what going on. Looks like the serial # might be a Force serial number rather than Sears. If I can relate the motor to a Mercury model, I think I'd be alright. It seems that it was made on the same assembly line as the Mercurys - well, we'll see. Thanks again.

loul
