50? 7.5 Fleetwin

Hi folks,<br />First time post. I just bought an old 50 something 7.5 Fleetwin Evinrude at a yardsale for $20, I threw it on my 13ft Whaler and tried it out. Well it runs but here is the deal. Water drops are coming from the hood/housing...not a lot, but they are warm and I am assuming a water leak (head gasket)? When I try to open up the throttle the high speed adjustment wants to dial to the left which seems to starve the motor for gas. If I hold it at the red marked 4 it runs ok. The smaller knob, I assume slow speed adjustment is turned out about 3/4 and I have it lined up on the red mark. It is a neat little motor and enough to putt-putt arond my lake. goomer,<br /><br />The leak could be coming from several places.<br /><br />1. Exhaust cover gasket.<br /><br />2. Head gasket.<br /><br />3. Engine block to exhaust housing gasket. <br /><br />It should be easy to find.<br /><br />As far as the knobs turning themselves, you need to tighten (CAREFULLY) the packing nut at the base of the adjustment needles.

Terrific Advise!<br />I tightened the packing nut and found friction. Took off the bonnet, (1st time) and yes the head gasket was leaking...more than I expected. Are they easy to come by? Expensive? <br />Thanks much,<br />goomer<br /><br /><br />
