50 amp breaker replacement

I'm needing to replace my 50 amp breaker on a 1993 Bayliner Capri and was wondering if I have to put the same exact part number breaker on it, or can I get a generic 50 amp marine breaker to replace it? Logic say it does not matter, but I wanted to ask the experts.

If it is truly bad (as Achris said, very rare) any 50 amp marine breaker can work. I would be willing to bet yours is fine unless corrosion damaged, or damaged from abuse.

I appreciate you guys responding to this post, that said, I'm having a very intermittent electrical problem. This all started about two summers ago. I first noticed the problem while running pretty hard down the lake, all of a suddent the motor started cutting out like someone was turning the ignition off and on really quick. After 30-45 seconds all was well. The next summer it did it again but only for 5 seconds or so. Then last summer I took the kids tubing, we stopped for awhile to let them swim around and when I was ready to leave I tried to start the motor. Everything was ok for about 1/10 of a second and then everything was dead. No blower, horn, starter, totally dead. I looked at all the obvious things and did not find any problems. I wiggled wires around, still nothing. Then I tried to start the motor again, and all was good. Motor started good, got the blower back and the horn and guages worked. Then on fathers day this year,after running for about 1.5 hours I decided to slow down and let my son drive. I was barely above idle and hit the blower switch and wam! everything went dead. After about 15 minutes of looking around I tried again and it started up just fine. I got home and looked at the cannon plug, it looked ok, no corrosion. I checked the power wires and they looked ok. So, yes, I was shotgunning the circuit breaker thinking it may giving me problems when it gets hot. Please give me your opinions on what to check as I hate just throwing money at it until it works.

Sounds more like a loose or corroded ground connection some where.
Are the battery connections all clean and tight. Forget wing nuts on the battery, they cause too many problems. Use some regular nuts or nylocks and tighten them with a wrench and see what happens. Do that on both the positive and negative terminals on the battery.

First time user of thos site! I think I have a problem with 50amp breaker. Looking for help on this. Took boat out a few weeks ago turn keyed and just a single click I hear. Thought battery was dead so I check cables and turned lights and blower, radio and everything worked. Turned key and still a single click, let sit for a min tried again started rite up and ran fine all day. Went out yesterday and just a single click again, checked everything cables , nothing kept turning key and it fired up. Got back to dock and turned off and tried to start and just a click still when I turn key. My buddy came over to help tonight and the click is coming from the 50amp breaker. If you put your hand on it when you turn the key you can feel the click inside. Is the breaker bad? Or do I have some other issue? Help!!!! One other thing I did also have a blown 20 amp fuse in the positive battery line, I did replace but didn't fix issue. Still just a click.

it`s a breaker, once tripped it stays that way unless you reset it.the clicking you feel and the symptom you describe is more likely the slave solenoid thats going bad.
the main power connection is at the starter solenoid for your main system that goes thru the breaker ,thru the cannon plug and up to the dash.more electrical issues are from dirty cable connections both at the battery terminals, the connectors on the battery cables(steel) and where the cables connect to the engine.
