My mom always told me..."If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all!" Therefore, I'll keep my opinions regarding that engine to myself.

Walt

Babes,
You've opened a hot topic here. This board is divided, most Hate and some Love Forces.
Force's are good for what they are, a low cost, low tech outboard. They require a higher than normal degree of maintenance to keep them in their prime and they will leave you stranded if you try to abuse them.
If you are happy with doing your own maintenance on them and are somewhat of a wrench, then by all means, get it...it can be a fun project.
If you're the type to shove the trailer into the back yard after each use, and never open the cover, then you'll want to stay away. (Unless you have your mechanic maintain it)

Search back in this forums archives and you'll find some full blown battles about the Force brand. Amusing reading if nothing else

You can also factor price into your equation. If it's cheap (or freee), then it's great!

I've had a 1985 Force 50 for 2 seasons now, and it hasn't given me any trouble. And I've had a couple of local mechanics that have told me they're fine engines. One advantage is that they're so simple, they're easy to fix. These early models had standard ignition (no expensive black boxes).

But I can't help the fact that they're so darn ugly!

By the way, I love your site! Great sense of humor. And we had a few of those snowmobiles back in the early 70's.

Navigator said it all. I have a 50HP and 120.
I like them both. But I like to monkey with motors. You begin to get the picture.
The engines are an old Chrysler design,bought-out by AMF,then by Merc. Merc dropped the line due to retooling costs they would have incured in making them meet Y2K emmission standards.
But, if it has been maintained they way it was suposed to have been, has low hours, and you plan on taking great care of it yourself, it can serve you well. Don't pay more than 800 for it in excellent condition.
