50 hp Johnson Getting Hot

1985 50 hp is getting hot. Impeller looked good, but replaced water pump and flushed the engine. Was getting strong water flow (ran it a hour or so on the lake) and all of a sudden I get a weak stream of water at the dock and it starts to run hot again at idle. Pulled the foot again and everything looks good

I am convinced there is some kind of debris in the water jacket that I cannot see by taking the head off.( maybe around the lower unit to power head ?) Has anyone had a similar problem , and is there a way to back flush this engine?

remove the tstat and replace, it is due. while there flush both ways. you will have to remove lower to back flush, while there recheck the impeller. was the old impeller missing any pieces? just because you have water flow, does not mean the tstat is working.
