This is a 1996. It used to get to 5600 RPMs. Now,all I get is 3,500. I have rebuilt the carburators, replaced spark plugs and checked gap, replaced fuel filter, sprayed power tune on motor. Still, no power. Compression is 125 in both cylinders. I think it might be the timing. Is there anything else I should check?

There is 2 plastic rollers on the linkage one on the carbuator and 1 on the timing linkage, both of these are a black roller with clear plastic sleeve over the them, check these and see if clear plastic is broke/missing. If you adjusted the linkage, you will have to readjust, after you replace roller. Check pulse hose to VRO pump.

Hi jjroodie

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm having exactly the same symptoms on my 1990 40hp and have pretty much covered the same ground as you did....

Also, check for good spark on all cylinders. Should jump at least 1/2"-7/16" to block using a screwdriver in the spark plug boot and hold it next to the block and turn it over using a fully charged battery.
