I am looking to purchase a 50 Jonnie mid to upper 90s vintage. The owner says that he had to replace the ignition a few times as well as the selenoid because the starter stays engaged when the motor starts. He said he jumped it with a wire and alligator clip temporarily and this seems to work.Am I looking at a major expense or is this a simple repair for a tech????.I probably will have a tech fix it if I buy the motor.Dont think I will attempt it myself.

Lube the bendix assembly and check the spring.
Check all connections and cables from the battery forward. Could be as simple as that.

I am having the same problem. Just installed a new out the box Engine harness, Solenoid and battery is hot. Boat has not seen daylight in 13 yrs. Could the Starter Switch be sticking?

lightly lubing the bendix, seeing it has sat for 13 years. switch possibly, but doubt it.
