When tilting engine up I need to pull up on the motor to give it some help and then it will go on it's own. It seems to struggle and sometime get stuck. If you go down with it and then back up right away it will work better. Almost seems like it air locked. I checked the fluid level and it is good. There does not appera to be any water in it and the motor sounds strong. Any ideas?

You might tell us the year of that motor.

After you help it up to the top of the tilt range. Lock it up there and let her sit for a few minutes to let any air bubble out. Now refill and repeat.

A lot of motor's PTT systems are bled that way. Of course, it is just a guess since I do not know what you are working on....

OK, That model should be bled the way I described. Run the PTT motor up and help the motor to tilt. Use the manual lock on the tilt tube to lock it up. Open the resevoir and let her sit a few minutes. Now fill with Dextron II ATF replace resevoir cover and cycle it down and up, wait, fill and repeat.
