50 hp merc no spark !

I HAVE A 50 HP MERCURY SERIAL NUMBER 5951398. IT RAN FINE AND THEN IT FAILED TO START. THERE IS NO SPARK ON ALL FOUR CYLINDERS. I CHECKED THE VOLTAGE AT THE +/- LEADS OF EACH CYLINDER WHILE CRANKING AND NO VOLTAGE IS GETTING TO ANY OF THE FOUR COILS. THERE IS VOLTAGE COMING FROM THE STATOR TO THE SWITCHBOX WHEN CRANKING BUT NO VOLTGE COMING OUT OF IT. I DID A RESISTANCE CHECK ON THE TRIGGER AND ALL SEEMED FINE. I DISCONNECTED THE KILL SWITCH WIRE AND STILL NO SPARK. I AM GUESS THAT THIS IS THE SWITCHBOX, I. MY SWITCHBOX HAS A STICKER ON IT SAYING IT IS A PN 332-5772A1 IS THERE ANY WAY TO BE SURE IT IS THE SWITCHBOX BEFORE I GO SHELLING OUT THE $$. PLEASE HELP !

Welcome to iboats...<br /><br />You need to type in lower case.. as capitals look like S H O U T I N G.. .<br />Your motor is a 1982 model.<br /> http://www.myfishingpictures.com/watermark.php?file=527/141382_merc.jpg <br />That Switchbox is the correct part but costs $230US So you need to make sure. Could also be the trigger.. which connects to the switchbox prior to going to the coils.

I HAVE A MANUAL AND I DID THE RESISTANCE TESTS ON THE TRIGGER, COILS AND STATOR. THEY ALLL CHECK OUT GOOD. THROUGH PROCESS OF ELIMINATION I BELIEVE IT TO BE THE SWITCHBOX, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE WORKED ON THIS AND I NEED TO BE SURE. I WISH THERE WAS A EASY WAY TO TELL IF THE SWITCHBOX IS BAD.

I DID A RESISTANCE TEST ON THE TRIGGER AND THE VALUES CAME OUT CORRECT.

it appears that power goes in the switchbox but nothing is coming out

Ahh... That's better.. you've calmed down and stopped shouting <br />Only jokin'...<br />If you perform a search on here, there may well be a test for the S/Box

It's got to be the switchbox... Unfortunately there is no way to test it (that I'm aware of). If you are sure that you have good voltage coming in, and the triggers are working, your best bet is to replace the switchbox....<br /><br />Check out this site, for somewhat afordable prices....<br /><br /> Seiler<br /><br />The part number you will need is<br />114-5772 CDI/Rapair Box<br />$170 Shipping included<br /><br />Better than $230... This dealer is good, I purchased my boxes from them without any problem. Saved me a bunch of money...
