50 hp merc

[50 hp merc guy]

i got a 50 hp 500 its a 1971 great motor runs really well but sometimes at an idle it seems to flood out after a bit untill i give it throttle then it rips no problem. could this be a float problem im thinkin my lower carb is the one thats doing it its 4shur flooding though cause i tryed to pump the ball when idleing but it killed er shouldnt my ball just get hard and the float shouldent let any past the float seat should it. anyone with experience on this motor that could give me a few pointers would be wicked.
