50 HP regulator voltage question

My 1989 50 HP Force was putting out 16.5 volts when running at full speed. Just changed the rectifier/regulator and voltage is around 15.5 volts DC. Is this correct? It still seems high as most auto regulators will put out 14.2 to 14.5 volts to charge the battery. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's a regulator not just a simple rectifier? Those don't put out much for amps.

Not sure, the Clymer Manual refers to it as a rectifier/regulator however the Quicksilver Part number F369450-1 refers to it as a rectifier. In digging through the forums on this issue I found other postings that lead me to believe that it is just a rectifier. What was Force thinking??

They don't put out much for amps. Under 10 amps and a regulator isn't terribly necessary. Not enough to cook the battery.

Mercury calls it a rectifier as well. I doubt a motor that small would have a regulator in it.
